Cyberspace Conference 2025, Brno, Czech Republic | 29 November 2025<\/p><\/h2><\/div>

On 29 November 2025, researchers from the University of Vienna (UNIVIE) participated in the international Cyberspace Conference 2025, held at the Faculty of Law of Masaryk University in Brno.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Cyberspace conference is a well-established international forum that brings together researchers, legal scholars, and practitioners to discuss the legal, social, and technological dimensions of digital environments. The 2025 edition gathered participants from across the globe and featured multiple thematic streams addressing current challenges in cyberspace, including artificial intelligence, online behavior, and digital regulation.<\/p>\n

As part of the conference programme, a presentation titled\u00a0\u201cThe Legal Status of Synthetic Data under GDPR\u201d\u00a0<\/i>was delivered by representatives of the University of Vienna (UNIVIE). The presentation explored one of the most pressing questions in contemporary data protection law: whether synthetic data should be classified as personal or non-personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and under what conditions it can be lawfully used.<\/p>\n

This contribution formed part of the broader academic discussion on the regulatory challenges posed by emerging technologies, especially the growing use of AI-generated data. The session engaged an interdisciplinary audience and fostered valuable exchanges on how legal frameworks can adapt to innovation while safeguarding fundamental rights.<\/p>\n

Participation in Cyberspace Conference 2025 provided an excellent opportunity for UNIVIE researchers to disseminate their findings, strengthen international collaboration, and contribute to ongoing debates on the future of data governance in Europe and beyond.<\/p>\n
